Cars Land Street Entertainment Announced

April 20, 2012 By Daniel Hale

Wow.  Wasn’t expecting this one…  And I’m presently surprised!  The Disney Parks Blog today announced Street Entertainment for Cars Land featuring Red the Fire Truck and DJ the uhh DJ?

From the Disney Parks Blog:

We recently told you about some of the shows and characters coming to Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure park. Well, that was just the beginning! When Cars Land opens June 15, the tiny town of Radiator Springs will also be teeming with atmosphere entertainment inspired by the Disney•Pixar film, “Cars.”

Big and red on the outside, gentle and good-natured on the inside, Red the Fire Truck shows up with his sirens blaring and his bell ringing, heading to meet up with his good buddy, a Volunteer Firefighter. The Firefighter lets everyone know the flowers in the area need watering. It’s “Red to the Rescue,” but each time the Firefighter attempts to use Red’s hose, it backfires on him! In all the fun, the plants manage to get wet, and you might too!

Bringing a completely different kind of beat to the street is “DJ’s Dance & Drive.” DJ, the ultimate party car, rolls into town with his giant speakers, built-in disc changer and his very own dance party, led by a girl named Spinner. This gang stops traffic everywhere they go, creating a spontaneous, interactive dance party. Spinner and the crew teach us moves like the Overdrive, the Reverse and the Hairpin Turn, while DJ calls up the hits, from “Life in the Fast Lane” to “Car Wash.” DJ’s going to shift Cars Land into high gear!

Cruise on down to Cars Land this summer at Disney California Adventure park. The residents there will be glad you rolled into town!

The Streetmosphere for Buena Vista Street

April 2, 2012 By Daniel Hale

While I’m super excited for the opening of Cars Land on June 15th, I’m equilly as excited for Buena Vista Street. I often ask myself what’s the big deal? It’s just going to be a trolly and some shops.

The Details.

Details like the ones released the other day from the Disney Parks Blog. Check it out!

When you enter Disney California Adventure park this summer, you’ll step back in time to Los Angeles of the 1920s and ‘30s on Buena Vista Street. One of the keys to creating a truly immersive environment like this is populating it with interesting and believable characters, so Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment has been hard at work developing the unique personalities and show experiences that will bring the new entrance avenue to life.

Buena Vista Street is alive with optimism and opportunity. It’s a boulevard of dreams and dreamers… like the Citizens of Buena Vista Street. This cast of characters will interact with guests in this area of the park, creating impromptu laughs, smiles and memories wherever they go.

The Red Car News Boys roll into town on one of the shiny Red Car Trolleys, belting out “California, Here I Come!” Inspired by the spirit and style of Disney’s “Newsies,” the Red Car News Boys bring the latest headlines and engage their audience with fun songs of the ‘20s and ‘30s.

Over “On the Sunny Side of the Street,” the musical group Five & Dime arrives in Carthay Circle to jazz things up. This ensemble of friends and relations, headed up by a vivacious singer named Dime, has travelled down Route 66 all the way from Chicago in the hopes of making it big. Like everyone who comes to Buena Vista Street, great things await them just around the corner!

Stay tuned. We’ll have more to share about these entertaining new offerings coming to Disney California Adventure park as we get closer to the opening of Buena Vista Street on June 15.

The DisGeek Podcast – New Format

March 16, 2012 By Daniel Hale

Hey everybody! Now that the site is working again I wanted to take a few minutes and write about what’s going on with the DisGeek Podcast. If you pay attention to our facebook page then you know that my brother and co-host Paul has decided to leave the show as a full-time host. The reason being is that he felt the show was too much of a distraction and was getting in the way of his desire to be a writer. Paul actually did write a message about this on facebook but when he closed his facebook account (he felt that was a distraction as well) the message he wrote got deleted as well. Of course while all this was going on the website got hacked. So I had to deal with that.

I know what some of you may be thinking. Well, this sucks. Trust me, I know. But it is what it is and I’m not going to stop doing what I ABSOLUTLY LOVE doing.

So what does this mean for the show?

Well, I have to change things up. I truly feel that there is no way I can replace him with somebody else and recreate what we had. It’s not possible. Therefore while the show WILL go on, it will be a little different. I’m bringing in Tommy Allison (tommyPix), Chris Allison, and Jae Brattain in as full time co-hosts. I’m also hoping to have guest panelists from different Disney related Blogs and Podcasts and I’m going to change it to a round-table, panel style format. It’s something I’ve wanted from day one but didn’t have enough folks to join in. Now I do and I’m very excited about the new direction. My goals for the show has always been to keep it entertaining and to keep it real. And I’m planning to continue doing just that.

I’m also planning on keeping the fun we have on facebook and this site going. Audio and photo challenges will live on. I just have to get my butt to the parks and take pictures and record some audio.

I totally understand Paul’s decision. We all have to follow our passions in life and for him it’s writing his novel. Not Disney. So the show will go on and the new format allows him to come on from time to time and chime in.

One last thing. I’m also happy to say that our partnership with Sorcerer Radio and sponshorship with Know the Mouse will continue. And I want to thank everybody for thier support.

Like I said I’m totally excited about the new direction and so are Tommy, Chris, and Jae. We look forward to doing the show and I hope you will all be there to join us!

Also if anybody is interested in joining the discussion (COUGH…a female COUGH..) with us please drop me a line at daniel@disgeek.com.

Thanks,
Daniel Hale
