Wednesday Photo Challenge 2-22-12 Answer

February 23, 2012 By Daniel Hale

Wow! Here I am thinking I had you all beat. There I was,  expecting to come home from Disneyland yesterday to a silent Photo Challenge blog post, only to discover that EVERYBODY who pays any attention to me had an idea about the answer.

There is a decent-sized list of people who gave it a shot, but a rather short list of people who answered correct. I am impressed with the number of people who threw in their hats, and thank you all for participating in this week’s photo challenge.

A good number of you guessed Peter Pan’s Flight. So, a good number of you were incorrect.

Almost everybody who contacted me on Twitter guessed Peter Pan. In fact, only one person who contacted me on Twitter got it right <COUGH>Chadellliot</COUGH>.

I don’t think Peter Pan ever flew through the streets of London to nowhere in particular. He flew over London to Never, Never Land (not that anyone cares anymore, thanks to Steve Jobs and Tinkerbell).

I think the font of the sign told you Fantasyland and the word London made your conscious minds instantly go too that cool part of Peter Pan’s ride with Big Ben, and you went, “Ah ha! Peter Pan!”

Sorry guys.

Another character in Fantasyland also makes his mark on London:

Mr. Toad

The answer to this Photo Challenge is: Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride

Don’t feel bad.  Peter Pan is probably what I would have guessed too, being pretty unfamiliar with Mr. Toad.

Did he have his own movie or what? I’ll have to Google that later.

When I was a kid, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride was my favorite ride in Fantasyland (after Peter Pan’s Flight that is), even though I have never seen nor heard of the movie or TV show with Mr. Toad in it.

I think that, of the kiddie attractions in Disneyland, it’s among the most exciting for kids. Still pretty fun for grownups too. 🙂

Now, a couple of you tried to ride the middle of the fence and answered something like, “It’s either Peter Pan or Mr. Toad”. Only one of them is right, which means those of you who used this answer <COUGH>AlisonandAshley</COUGH> are wrong. You gotta pick one, friends. 😉

Those who hit the nail square on the head are:

  • Eric
  • Rob
  • Chad Elliot
  • Kayla
  • Lillian Tadamichi
  • Kevin Healy
  • Elsie Barker
  • Shannon
  • Lyndsey
  • Alex Hein

Thanks for playing. This one got a lot of attention, and I have a new one lined up, so when you’re in the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and all of the Disney hotels), keep your eyes peeled and take in everything!

Don’t forget to come back on Monday for a new Magical Monday Audio Challenge! Bye for now! 😀

When I said I’d start you off with something easy, I honestly didn’t know it was that easy. I was warned. Daniel said that this first challenge was way too easy. But what do I know?

Anyway… everyone, and I mean everyone, who guessed was correct one way or another. I also think it’s a stretch to say that anybody “guessed”. You all answered with such swift and hard certainty. Some of you even loled at me!

Unlike the Photo Challenge where there is one correct answer, there will be times (like this one) in the Audio Challenge where more than one answer is correct. So if you answered: Splash Mountain or The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh or “The Winnie the Pooh Ride” (or any variation thereof) you were correct.

Those of you who answered Critter Country are very correct. Lol!

To capture this sound clip, I walked into Critter Country, past Splash Mountain, under the overpass for the Disneyland Railroad and then all the way to the back where you can hear the tail-end of  The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.

As I said, NOBODY got this wrong, and I believe because so many knew without a doubt where this clip came from, our first Audio Challenge has already surpassed the Photo Challenge in the number of participants!

So thank you to all of the winners:

  • Rob
  • Robert Erickson
  • Melissa
  • LiLeopard
  • Kent Williams
  • Angie
  • Lillian Tadamichi
  • Ashley Hodgson
  • Chad Elliott
  • Lyndsey
  • Becca Lovato Hart
  • rosannaring
  • Chris Carpenter
  • Bunnyaimee
  • ComeCorrect1714
  • 1DizFanatic
  • Rowena Ebba
  • Rebecca Fernandez

Don’t get cocky though. This was just a warm up. It won’t be as easy next time. So if you happen to visit DLR before next Monday, keep your ears wide open.

Thank you all for participating ! I hope to see you all on the Wednesday Photo Challenge, and then next Monday for Audio Challenge #2 which I promise won’t be as big a cakewalk as this one was!

On the weekend we had an opportunity to visit Disneyland and enjoy the New Orleans Bayou Blast which was filled with lively excitement, jazzy music, street performers and the sensational food of New Orleans.

I was front and (almost) center when Tiana’s Mardi Gras Procession,  featuring Princess Tiana, Louis and Naveen, kicked off. I was able to snap some photos and capture full audio of this vibrant, musical performance in the streets of New Orleans Square and the Rivers of America.

It’s a fun show, so take a couple minutes to give it a listen and enjoy our photos of this lively event, which only occurs during the Mardi Gras celebration at Disneyland! 😀

Today, Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline debuted at Disney California Adventure.  We were there for the 12:00PM show and snapped some shots.  The show features the first ever Minnie Mouse with eyes that blink and a mouth that moves as she talks.  Much like what we have seen for Mickey.  The show very much reminds me of the Pan Am show on ABC.  Vey cool and very enjoyable.

As a bonus we recorded the show for your enjoyment. Take a look at the pics below and enjoy Minnie and the Fly Girls!

Wednesday Photo Challenge 2-15-12 Answer “The Little Mermaid” and Ariel’s Grotto

February 16, 2012 By Daniel Hale

I’m kind of stunned by how many of you guessed question B and not A. I would think if one knows the answer to B one would also know the answer to A! It’s almost like a prerequisite!

(Answer A) The classic Disney film that this old, bearded dude (King Triton) has a part in is called “The Little Mermaid” (maybe you’ve heard of it). (Answer B) This carving of him can be found at the entrance to Ariel’s Grotto in Paradise Pier, DCA.

Seriously, do you know how many people guessed “Ariel’s Grotto” but didn’t guess “The Little Mermaid”??

Too many!

The name of the movie isn’t “King Triton”! OMG! >:(

Some of you that correctly guessed the movie thought this was King Triton’s Carousel. I can see that mistake happening, but to not guess the movie… All I can do is snort derisively <snort>.

On the other hand, to look at how impressive Triton is here… Ariel’s daddy certainly makes his presence known. I mean to look at that picture one might think it’s “The Big Triton” movie and this is Triton’s Grotto.

Ariel’s Grotto used to be a meet & greet area in Disneyland, but Tinkerbell and her gang of miscreant fairies came, kicked Ariel out and turned it into Pixie Hollow.

"Notice of Eviction" by Brianna Garcia

I can get why Pixie Hollow would be placed on the outskirts of Fantasyland, I can. They’re fairies. It’s Fantasyland. Gotcha. But their proximity to Tomorrowland is inapropriate. I don’t trust Tinkerbell that close to technology and neither should Disneyland. Watch the DVDs if you don’t see what I’m getting at.

Let’s just say: if one of the Astro Blaster rockets should break loose, send it and the guests riding it, flying into the marquee of Star Tours or something, the people who let Tink that close to a rocket ship have only themselves to blame! They should be well aware by now that Tink has a thing about watching people fall to their deaths.

Furthermore, and speaking only for myself, Tink and her fairy clique belongs in Critter Country with the rest of the animals!

But I digress…

Now Ariel’s Grotto is a restaurant which offers Character Dining– a chance to eat as Ariel and other Disney princesses visit tables.

Which, by the way, is why I’ve never set foot in the place. I really, really, really don’t like being bothered when I eat.

And let’s say I was okay with strangers coming up and talking to me while I ate– what If I’m eating some crab or snapper dish and I see Ariel approaching me…

I have to dive under the table and hide, or put up with the drama when she sees what I’m eating. Who needs that? Not me.

You can also watch World of Color from there as an alternative to fastpass general viewing, which is cool. You do need a reservation though. You can’t just walk in and expect to see World of Color from the restaurant without one.

So there you have it: “The Little Mermaid” and Ariel’s Grotto.

Thanks to everybody who participated. This was a fun one. I enjoyed all of your comments!

Congratulations to those of you who got the whole kit and kaboodle correct:

And good try to you guys who guessed half correct:

Lillian Tadamichi

Robert Erickson

I’ll have a new one next week, so when you’re in the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and all of the Disney hotels), keep your eyes peeled and take in everything.
