Wednesday Photo Challenge 11-23-11

November 23, 2011 By Daniel Hale

Every Wednesday I will post a photo and issue a challenge for our readers to answer a question about it. So far we only have a handful of players and someone has always guessed right.

What, are the rest of you chicken? It doesn’t hurt to guess.

No one’s gonna laugh at you if you get it wrong.

Okay, peep this:

It’s night time at Disneyland. The sailing ship Columbia and the Steamboat Mark Twain are both hiding in a dark corner of The Rivers of America. Why?

If you know the answer to this one, or think you know the answer, drop me a line.

You can do this by:

Leaving a comment here (certanly the simplest way)

Send me a direct message on Twitter (@disgeekpaul)

or drop me an e-mail: paul@disgeek.com.

I’ll keep your answers hidden so that more people can guess, therefore YOU will be able to see your answer, but no one else will. I need to keep it going as long as I can and give everyone a fair shot at it.

Tomorrow morning I’ll post the names of players who guessed correctly and reveal a new photo with the correct answer.

Have a great magical, and happy Humpday!

Tip of the Week
Candy cane time again

If your holiday tradition includes a trip to Disneyland for one of its famous fresh-made candy canes, here are the dates and details you’ll need to start making plans for 2011. The first batch of fresh candy canes will be made at the Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A. on November 30. The candy cane schedule usually begins the day after Thanksgiving, but with an early holiday this year the park seems to be waiting a week, but adding an extra day in December. The full schedule is:
Wednesday, November 30
Friday, December 2
Tuesday, December 6
Friday, December 9
Monday, December 12
Friday, December 16
Wednesday, December 21

Last year the candy canes cost $9.95 each, and were limited to two per person. We expect pricing and limits to be similar this year. Disneyland usually makes two—sometimes three—batches a day, but the number of candy canes in each batch can vary based in temperature and humidity. The typical batch yields fewer than 90 canes. If Disneyland follows the normal operating pattern, tickets will be distributed at the Candy Palace at park opening each day, with the first batch of candy canes usually available to purchase about one hour after the official park opening time. The second and third batches are usually ready 90-minutes to two hours apart.

Wednesday Photo Challenge Answer: Grizzly River Run

November 3, 2011 By Daniel Hale

Every Wednesday we test your DLR knowledge with a photograph taken somewhere in the Disneyland Resort.  Here it is:

We had some  good guesses, but only three correct ones.

A lot of people breeze right past this waterfall. Some people, uninterested in the attraction, walk on by without even looking. In fact you have to kind of go into this attraction to find this spot.

Though this attraction is one of what I call the “Big 3” rides at Disney California Adventure (referring to what I believe were the only 3 good rides in DCA before the big refurb), I have personally only been on Grizzly River Run  twice.

I often wear jeans to the park, and jeans take forever to dry. More often than not, one can get pretty wet on this ride, so I tend to avoid it most times. I do think it’s a fun ride though.

Even if I don’t ride,  this is still a great attraction for me. I love nature, rivers, and waterfalls. My favorite place in California (besides the Disneyland Resort) is Yosemite National Park. The Grizzly Peak Recreation Area does a good enough job of recreating the majestic Sierra Nevada and the northern coastal Redwood forest, that this is my favorite part of DCA.

The only thing missing is a nice restaurant, and I mean within the Grizzly Peak area. The ones inside the Grand Californian Hotel are very good, but they are kind of far off the beaten path. Something like the Hungry Bear restaurant, around Grizzly River, would be nice.

Many places surrounding Grizzly River Run are great places to stop for a moment and cool down in the mist coming off of the falls, especially on those really hot days.

Here is the list of this week’s winners:

Alison Hodgson (keep it up and I’m going to get you a trophy or something!) 😉

Teresa Hale

“LilLeopard” (Twitter)

And to those who gave it a shot, thank you so much for participating!

We’ll have a new one for you next week, so when you’re in the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and all of the Disney hotels), keep your eyes peeled and take in everything.

Wednesday Photo Challenge 11-2-11

November 2, 2011 By Daniel Hale

Every Wednesday I will post a photo and issue a challenge for our readers to answer a question about it.

This Wednesday’s Challenge is this:

This waterfall is part of the decor for what attraction?

By now, you may have noticed I have a fondness for waterfalls.

Have a great wonderful, wandering Wednesday!
