Wednesday Photo Challenge 3-28-12 Answer

March 29, 2012 By Daniel Hale

Well, it would appear that I blew it!  I made the picture too hard!  My brother told me that if I make it too hard I won’t get as many entries.  He was right!  I didn’t get as many guesses as we normally do and the ones I did get were ALL WRONG!  But good guesses!  I cropped the image ever so slightly as I felt UN-cropped would give it away.  So here it is un-cropped. Guess again then I reveal it below:

Did you guess right?

That’s right! Goofy’s Sky School!

These tools are located at the unload area of the ride. Right next to one of the control panels (I cropped out!).  This last weekend my 4 year old daughter was finally tall enough to ride.  She had been waiting for weeks for this, so it was a very exciting moment!  And she LOVED it!  My mom, not so much…

Thanks to everybody who participated! Sorry nobody got it right.  We’ll see if I do better next time.  Seeya next week!

Wednesday Photo Challenge 3-28-12

March 28, 2012 By Daniel Hale

Hey Everybody!

It’s that time again for our Wednesday Photo Challenge! Sorry for the delay, but between the site getting hacked and everything else, it’s just been crazytime. But I got my but over to the Disneyland Resort and snapped some awesome images.

Here’s the deal.  I put up a picture, you guess what it is.  What do you win?  A Wednesday that is a little less sucky…  So here we go..

Where in the Disneyland Resort is this detail?

If you know the answer to this one, or you think you know, all you have to do is drop me a line. You can do this by:

Leaving a comment here (the recommended, simple way)

Send me a direct message on Twitter (@disgeekpodcast)

or drop me an e-mail: daniel@disgeek.com.

I’ll keep your answers hidden so that more people can guess, therefore YOU will be able to see your answer, but no one else will.

Tomorrow morning I’ll post the names of players who guessed correctly and reveal a new photo with the correct answer.

Have a great magical day and good luck!

Wednesday Photo Challenge 2-29-12 Answer

11 participants, 11 correct answers. Probably would have been more if I had remembered to tweet the challenge. :/

I mean, clearly I overestimated the toughness of that picture. I expected silence or for at least one of you to say “Big Thunder”, but no. You guys know the illiterate scrawl of Brer Rabbit and his backwoods buddies when you see it.

I think I need to raise the level of difficulty of the photo challenge. When you see e-mail domain names like sorcerertink, and daysinthepark you figure out pretty fast that you’re not dealing with featherweight jobbers here.

Yes. The attraction I’m about to get a Fastpass for is:

Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain is one of those rides that I really like, but rarely go on.

I usually wear denim jeans. When denim jeans get wet… I’ll just use the word chafe, and let you fill in the blanks.

The last time I got on a water-ride with jeans on was years ago in Orlando. I figured, hey, it’s hot enough. It’ll dry fast.  I didn’t factor in the %$@#! humidity!

My wife (girlfriend at the time) also mostly wears jeans, and she made the same mistake in Orlando, thinking the same thing I did. The chafing torture was so bad for her that she went and bought new sweatpants and changed into them immediately.

Anyway… You all did great! Thank’s for taking a minute to play my little game!

This week’s winners are:

  • Angie Howatt
  • Chad Elliott
  • Kevin Healy
  • Rob
  • Elizabeth
  • Kayla
  • Lyndsey
  • Alex Hein
  • Robert Erickson
  • Alison Hodgson
  • Ashley Hodgson
I had you Hodgson ladies on the ropes for a minute there, but you came back swinging, didn’t you?

It won’t be so easy next time.

I have a new one lined up, so when you’re in the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and all of the Disney hotels), keep your eyes peeled and take in everything!

Don’t forget to come back on Monday for a new Magical Monday Audio Challenge! Bye for now! 😀

Wednesday Photo Challenge 2-29-12

February 29, 2012 By Daniel Hale

Happy Leap Day everybody!

Most of you are already at Disneyland Resort for One More Disney Day. I’ve decided to sit it out.

I feel a cold coming on, and competing with all the people who think that DLR being open for 24 hours is somehow going to be different from when it is open for regular hours isn’t something I am feeling a need to do.

Yes, it’s leap day. It’s also Wednesday. That’s a work day for most of us who aren’t crazy and want to spend our vacation days actually on vacation, and our sick days actually being sick.

Although you do get a hat… Hmmm…

Nah!

Truthfully, I was going to go…. But reading online, the comments of all the real Disney crazies and how they plan to get there at 4 in the morning (so that they can be there at 6 on the dot when it opens), and then stay to watch Fantasmic! at 1AM as if that too will somehow be different from Fantasmic! at 9PM (aside from tweaking out from coffee or 5-hour energy drinks to manage it after traipsing around DLR alllll day)…

This isn’t to say that I frown and scoff at you guys taking a day off to go to the Land. No way! If One More Disney Day has given you an excuse in your minds to skip work and go to a Disney Park, I’m all for it! And I hope everybody who is there has a great time!

Me? I take the day off all the time to visit the resort– when I know it won’t be nutso up in there. So, One More Disney Day for Paul?

Yeah, no. Not today. Maybe next Tuesday. 😀

But look at me running on at the keyboard. You’d think that this isn’t a Wednesday Photo  Challenge post.

But, HA! It is!

So here we go…Let’s see… We’re walking… We’re walking…  WOW! 50 minutes!? I got a question:

What attraction am I about to get a FastPass for?

If you know the answer to this one, or you think you know, all you have to do is drop me a line. You can do this by:

Leaving a comment here (the recommended, simple way)

Send me a direct message on Twitter (@disgeekpaul)

or drop me an e-mail: paul@disgeek.com.

I’ll keep your answers hidden so that more people can guess, therefore YOU will be able to see your answer, but no one else will.

Tomorrow morning I’ll post the names of players who guessed correctly and reveal a new photo with the correct answer.

Have a great magical, and happy Humpday!

Wednesday Photo Challenge 2-22-12 Answer

February 23, 2012 By Daniel Hale

Wow! Here I am thinking I had you all beat. There I was,  expecting to come home from Disneyland yesterday to a silent Photo Challenge blog post, only to discover that EVERYBODY who pays any attention to me had an idea about the answer.

There is a decent-sized list of people who gave it a shot, but a rather short list of people who answered correct. I am impressed with the number of people who threw in their hats, and thank you all for participating in this week’s photo challenge.

A good number of you guessed Peter Pan’s Flight. So, a good number of you were incorrect.

Almost everybody who contacted me on Twitter guessed Peter Pan. In fact, only one person who contacted me on Twitter got it right <COUGH>Chadellliot</COUGH>.

I don’t think Peter Pan ever flew through the streets of London to nowhere in particular. He flew over London to Never, Never Land (not that anyone cares anymore, thanks to Steve Jobs and Tinkerbell).

I think the font of the sign told you Fantasyland and the word London made your conscious minds instantly go too that cool part of Peter Pan’s ride with Big Ben, and you went, “Ah ha! Peter Pan!”

Sorry guys.

Another character in Fantasyland also makes his mark on London:

Mr. Toad

The answer to this Photo Challenge is: Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride

Don’t feel bad.  Peter Pan is probably what I would have guessed too, being pretty unfamiliar with Mr. Toad.

Did he have his own movie or what? I’ll have to Google that later.

When I was a kid, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride was my favorite ride in Fantasyland (after Peter Pan’s Flight that is), even though I have never seen nor heard of the movie or TV show with Mr. Toad in it.

I think that, of the kiddie attractions in Disneyland, it’s among the most exciting for kids. Still pretty fun for grownups too. 🙂

Now, a couple of you tried to ride the middle of the fence and answered something like, “It’s either Peter Pan or Mr. Toad”. Only one of them is right, which means those of you who used this answer <COUGH>AlisonandAshley</COUGH> are wrong. You gotta pick one, friends. 😉

Those who hit the nail square on the head are:

  • Eric
  • Rob
  • Chad Elliot
  • Kayla
  • Lillian Tadamichi
  • Kevin Healy
  • Elsie Barker
  • Shannon
  • Lyndsey
  • Alex Hein

Thanks for playing. This one got a lot of attention, and I have a new one lined up, so when you’re in the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and all of the Disney hotels), keep your eyes peeled and take in everything!

Don’t forget to come back on Monday for a new Magical Monday Audio Challenge! Bye for now! 😀
