World of Color TRON: Legacy Encore

December 1, 2010 By Daniel Hale

For the first time this past weekend, a specially-designed encore performance was added to the nighttime water spectacular, “World of Color,” at Disney California Adventure park.

Once again, “World of Color” takes Disney storytelling to new heights as the exciting world of “TRON: Legacy” is brought to life with a breathtaking combination of sky-high fountains, film projections, piercing lasers and pulsating light.

Disneyland gives healthy meal options to kids

November 30, 2010 By Daniel Hale

Straight from the OC Register’s Around Disney’s Blog:

Four years ago, Disney parks began an endeavor to create healthier kids’ meals.

Now, the Disneyland Resort’s two parks offer lower-calorie meals at all of its restaurants. At the parks alone, 38 menu options are available. Another 40 are on hotel restaurant and room-service menus.

Children automatically get healthy sides and drinks, such as carrots and milk when they order a kids’ meal. Still, visitors can request fries or sodas. But about 60 percent of visitors choose the healthier options.

The maximum guidelines for a meal: 550 calories, 35 percent of calories from fat, no added trans fats and 10 percent of sugar added or none when possible. Click, “more” for the list of new food items.

‘Disney Channel Rocks’ Debuts at Disney California Adventure Park

November 30, 2010 By Daniel Hale

Direct from the Disney Parks Blog

Last Friday, “Disney Channel Rocks,” a new rock-concert style show featuring performers who dance and sing live to music from Disney Channel shows and movies, debuted along Paradise Bay in Disney California Adventure park.
The 17-minute show includes parts of 12 songs, such as “Camp Rock,” “High School Musical,” “Cheetah Girls One World” and “Jump In,” movies as well as T.V. shows “Shake It Up” and “Hannah Montana.”

Take a peek at this video that we shot on Friday.

Did you notice the water fountains shooting up in the air?

This is the first time a stage show is using the fountains from “World of Color” as a backdrop and an additional element for a daytime show. The fountains shoot up to 200 feet in the air and definitely amp up the fun.

“Disney Channel Rocks” is currently scheduled to run several times a day on most days. Check the schedule here on disneyland.com for daily updates and to see if the show is running on the day of your visit.

Murphy is Back!

November 30, 2010 By Daniel Hale

The Disneyland dragon that has been somewhat less than reliable since its introduction, has a history of technical difficulties. Disney delayed debuting the dragon’s public appearance as the company worked to address problems, finally introducing the dragon Sept. 1, 2009. Its performance problems have earned the Audio-Animatronic the affectionate nickname “Murphy,” after “Murphy’s Law,” by Disney fans.

Murphy lived up to its reputation on Saturday, August 28, 2010 as Disney fans took to Twitter and Disney fan websites to describe the event and its aftermath as it was happening. MiceChat and MousePlanet and their users reported the dragon collapsed, its neck and head falling into a slump, during Fantasmic!

Disneyland then shrouded Rivers of America, the show’s site, in mist and canceled the night’s second scheduled performance.

During Disneyland’s 2010 “Summer Nightastic!” promotion, Fantasmic! had been shown every night. The promotion ended and the show returned to its weekends-only schedule.

Now the troubled Fantasmic! dragon is back and MousePlanet has the video to prove it! Yay!
