The Magic, The Memories and You!

January 27, 2011 By Daniel Hale

From the Disney Parks Blog:

I’m going to tell you about a new show at Disneyland park that takes the façade of “it’s a small world” and does some amazing things. It turns it into an animated, coloring pad; it coaxes the singing dolls from inside the attraction to appear outside in the show; and it weaves hundreds of guest photos into a giant, surprise mosaic.

Even after I tell you about it, and we share a video sneak-peek of tonight’s first show, I must admit the real thing is so much better.

If you can get here, quit reading now and get here to see “The Magic, The Memories and You!” The nightly, 10-minute spectacular utilizes projection technology and animation to transform the architecture of “it’s a small world” in ways that will make you wonder what happened to the walls.

Disney Closes Critter Country

January 26, 2011 By Daniel Hale

From the OC Register:

Disneyland is set to shut down Critter Country for more than a month starting Wednesday (Today).

Crews already began refurbishing Splash Mountain and Hungry Bear Restaurant, two major features in the land in the northwest corner of the park, earlier this month.

Disney decided to close the rest of Critter Country while work is ongoing, said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman. Click on the photo to see Critter Country features and other attractions that are undergoing refurbishments this month.

“Closing the remainder of the land allows us to be more efficient and to perform refresh work that was originally scheduled for later in the year,” Brown said in a statement.

Other parts of Critter Country include The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride and Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes, as well as a few shops and food locations. Winnie the Pooh and other characters often greet visitors in Critter Country.

All features, except Splash Mountain, are set to reopen in March, Brown said.

Splash Mountain is scheduled to undergo renovations through May 26.

Disney Double 5 Collection

January 17, 2011 By Daniel Hale

From the Disney Parks Blog

Disney Double 5

The New Year has brought many exciting new things including the introduction of a new “house label,” that will rock the Disney fashion world. If you’re looking to add more of an edge to your current “Disney” look, then you will definitely enjoy this sneak peek from the new Disney Double 5 Collection, which will debut February 5 at D Street at the Disneyland Resort. While it may be quite different than the norm, it’s fun and often inspiring to see how some of our new artists interpret our classic characters and give them a little bit of an urban Disney twist.

Disney Double 5 Collection

There are quite a few different designs to choose from, including “How You Like Me?”, “World Famous” and Half Steppin’, among others. Not only will you find the designs on original and limited edition artwork, but you’ll also find it on ladies and men’s tees, tanks and hats.

When asked about what inspired some of these new designs, artist Les Schettkoe says, “in some instances, like the “How You Like Me?” painting, I just wanted to show that even scruffier kids are big Mickey Mouse fans at heart. I wanted to give Mickey Mouse a different attitude, a different look and an altogether different feel, sort of have him, walking tough.”

Disney Double 5 Collection

Here’s a special tip for you. If this new style has kind of piqued your interest, or you know someone that you think this would be the perfect fit for, then be sure to let stop by D Street to meet the artist and designer, Les Schettkoe from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at D Street.

Village Haus Reopens With New Gourmet Sandwiches

January 14, 2011 By Daniel Hale

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Since 1983, the Village Haus Restaurant at Disneyland park has been a great place to grab a bite surrounded by the fun and whimsy of Fantasyland. Recently, the location reopened with a spiffy new look. Today the update will be complete as the Village Haus debuts a new menu.

Village Haus

The menu features many fast-casual options that guests have enjoyed over the years including hamburgers or cheeseburgers with french fries or a healthy side, and pepperoni or cheese pizzas. With a playful nod to the uniquely European flavor of the restaurant, many new and reimagined items have been added as well.

Chicken Sausage

Topped with sauerkraut served in a pretzel roll

Angus ⅓ lb. Pastrami Cheeseburger

Angus chuck burger, pastrami, pickles, caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, lettuce and a creamy horseradish sauce

BLT Flat Bread Pizza

Thin flat bread crust, cherrywood-smoked bacon, provolone and mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions, marinated tomatoes and arugula-fennel salad

I cannot lie, for me no meal is complete without dessert, and the Village Haus is offering a perfect way to top off your visit with either a Black Forest Cupcake or Warm Apple Strudel.

Kids ages 3-9 have their own menu choosing from a hamburger, pizza or macaroni and cheese, all served with sliced apples and a choice of a small low-fat milk, Minute-Maid juice or small Dasani water. There truly is something for everyone as toddlers under age 3 can choose “Yummy Cheesy Macaroni” served with smooth applesauce and a small low-fat milk.

On your next visit to the Disneyland Resort let your conscience be your guide and Hi-Deedle-Dee-Dee your way to the Village Haus restaurant in Fantasyland to try all the fun and delicious new offerings.
