ElecTRONica: Kaba Modern and New Special Edition Silver Tokens

March 4, 2011 By Daniel Hale

Super-hot dance crew Kaba Modern will be rocking ElecTRONica at DCA every weekend through March 20th.

Disney Parks Blog says, “This urban collegiate dance group perfected their unique groove within the hallowed halls of University of California, Irvine. First formed in 1992, the award-winning team continues to grow and evolve, thanks to its international fan base, fantastic versatility, and ultimate passion for dance.”

“Kaba Modern’s award-winning performances have turned heads at prestigious competitions such as Bust-A-Groove, Bodyrock, Fusion and Vibe. And their championship rise to the finalist level in both the Hip Hop International Dance competition and MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” captured even more fans.”

Over at Flynn’s Arcade pick up all-new Flynn’s Arcade tokens! Here’s a sneak peek at the special edition tokens.

Hmmmm.. These look familiar. Could these be the same tokens they were giving to folks who check in using Gowalla? I thought this was a collectors edition. Perhaps they had plenty left over.

Carthay Circle Theater Will Hold Restaurant

March 1, 2011 By Daniel Hale

The Carthay Circle Theatre building, the upcoming centerpiece for Disney California Adventure, will hold a restaurant according to a story posted at the OC Register’s Around Disney Blog.

“We are in the early stages of determining the menu concept and interior design,” said John McClintock, a Disneyland Resort spokesman.

There are also rumors that the building will host a private club simular to Club 33. In response to the rumor McClintock said, “Nothing else about the location is far enough along to discuss at this time.”

The Carthay Circle Theatre building will serve as a hub in the new entrance area that is now under construction. The theatre will be part of Buena Vista Street, designed to look like the Los Angeles that Walt Disney saw when he came to California. The entrance area is part of a $1-billion makeover of California Adventure that is to be finished next year.

Opening Dates for Ariel, Star Tours, and Soundsational!

February 27, 2011 By Daniel Hale

From Disney Parks Blog:

As days get longer and the weather gets warmer (well, hopefully!), we are very excited about summer 2011 at the Disneyland Resort. And today I’m thrilled to share the grand opening dates for three new experiences headed your way. Grand opening June 3: At Disney California Adventure park, get ready for an all-new voyage with one of Disney’s most beloved characters, Ariel. The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure will invite guests to take a journey under the sea to experience all the fun and adventures in Ariel’s world. From the great songs to state-of-the-art animatronics and special effects, guests will become a part of her world in a way that’s never happened before. The Little Mermaid attraction is the next big milestone in the expansion of Disney California Adventure park. “World of Color” debuted last year and continues to wow guests every night with magic that combines choreographed fountains, lights, lasers, music, animation and Disney storytelling. And on the horizon, guests can see the awesome Cadillac Mountain range taking shape as the backdrop to the 12-acre Cars Land, which opens in 2012. Here’s a first look at the vision Walt Disney Imagineers have for Ursula, who will play a big role in The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.

Across the esplanade at Disneyland park, guests this summer will be dancing to the beat of a whole new parade and jetting off to new galaxies far, far away. May 27 Premiere: “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” officially steps off for Memorial Day weekend, with an explosive musical score, thrilling rhythms and bold percussion that will have people dancing to many of their favorite Disney tunes. Look for whimsical float units, live musicians and some of your favorite characters. Mickey Mouse and his pals will be jamming like never before and creating an atmosphere that will be…soundsational! Here’s a peek at the preparations:

Grand opening June 3: And for those who dare to venture into the deep, dark corners of the universe, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue officially launches in Tomorrowland at Disneyland park, taking guests on interstellar adventures to Coruscant, Tatooine, and other destinations in the “Star Wars” galaxy. With the return of favorite Star Wars characters and the addition of more familiar faces and destinations, guests are going to experience Starspeeder travel in an all-new way…in 3D! You may remember, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue also launches at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort on May 20. May the Force be with you!

Celebrate Mardi Gras at Family Fun Weekends, Through March 6

February 16, 2011 By Daniel Hale

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Let the good times roll!

After two amazing weekends of “Happy Lunar New Year,” it’s time for Mardi Gras celebrations at Disneyland park. The next three weekends will be filled with jazzy music, the sensational food of New Orleans and Disney characters in their Mardi Gras finery.

For Mardi Gras, Princess Tiana and her friends will help move “Family Fun Weekends” into New Orleans Square, with a celebration that features a lively street-party atmosphere and warm Southern hospitality.

You can catch the The Royal Street Bachelors playing their tunes at the French Market Stage, or join the fun with special interactive entertainment.

  • Princess Tiana’s Mardi Gras Celebration – Colorfully-costumed dancers, together with Tiana, Louis and Naveen, burst into New Orleans Square and make their way through the land. You can clap and dance along.
  • Jambalaya Jazz Cavalcade – Led by the Jambalaya Jazz Band, a cast of Disney characters dressed in their Mardi Gras attire proceeds to the Court of Angels for a meet-and-greet with guests. Look for Mickey and Minnie as they get ready to celebrate Mardi Gras.

Something new is on the menu for the first time at New Orleans Square – “Mickey” King Cake! You can also find Mardi Gras cupcakes, mint juleps and specialty items at the French Market and other New Orleans Square dining locations. Plus, you’ll be able to meet characters at a photo location in the Court of Angels.

The fun gets started this weekend – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – and it continues the following two weekends: February 25-27 and March 4-6.

Mardi Gras Celebrations occur in New Orleans Square at Disneyland park, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The last Jambalaya Jazz Cavalcade begins at 5 p.m. Look for show times in the daily park guide.
