Wednesday Photo Challenge Answer: Disney Princess Fantasy Faire

February 2, 2012 By Daniel Hale

Tough one wasn’t it? Apparently not. The answer to this photo challenge came hard and fast. Six answers inside 30 minutes and then crickets for the rest of the day.

The Princess Fantasy Faire includes Meet the Pricesses, Princess Storytelling, Royal Crafts, and a Royal Coronation Ceremony in which your kids will learn what it takes to be a princess or prince.  Once your kid has taken the Royal Oath there is a lively dance to participate in with the rest of the newly anointed ‘royalty’.

Princesses that have appeared include Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, Tiana, and Rapunzel.

It’s like I thought. The ones who answered are the one’s who knew it. There were no guesses this time.

Hey, I wouldn’t have known it either, if I hadn’t been there, glanced over at the sign and thought to myself “Ooh this would make a good photo challenge!”

This Fantasy Faire is too close to Toon Town and I avoid Toon Town as if it were a leper colony! That’s just how I feel about it. Take it easy.

Anyway, those of you who nailed it:

Ashley Hodgson

Days in The Park a.k.a Chad Elliot (who is totally overqualified for this particular photo challenge) 😉

Thank you all for participating!

We’ll have a new one soon, so when you’re in the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and all of the Disney hotels), keep your eyes peeled and take in everything.

Disneyland
Tinkerbell half marathon

There were 17,300 registered runners over the entire weekend; 12,000 of which ran in Sunday’s half marathon. The race was targeted, but not limited to, women and the numbers certainly reflected it. Of the 12,000 runners, 11,082 of them were women! The Disneyland Resort traditionally holds a half marathon in the late summer but the addition of this new winter half marathon takes advantage of a traditionally slower time at the resort. The result is an influx in tourism dollars to the resort area and hotels to the tune of an estimated $14 million dollars!

Disneyland is updating ‘The Magic, The Memories & You’ projection show for Valentine’s Day. New version starts feb 1st. and runs through april.

“One of my favorite moments comes when the king and queen from “Tangled” appear on a balcony, lifting a single lantern to the sky for their missing daughter. It’s soon joined by hundreds of others, creating a magical sight sure to draw “oohs” and “ahhs” from the crowd. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it! Of course, the most heart-warming part of any segment of “The Magic, The Memories and You!” is the images of our guests, captured by Disney PhotoPass photographers during the day and incorporated into the show each night. “

The Matterhorn continues to disappear behind scaffolding as its six-month refurbishment gets underway. In fact I saw some reports that the interior of the queue has been demolished. The roof remains however.

Haunted Mansion has reopened as It’s a Small World closes.

Disneyland celebrated the Lunar New Year over the past few weeks. This year this did it in the Small World Mall. Last year it was part of the Family Fun Weekends. They added some decorations and food items as well. They have a Mulan and Mushu meet and greet. As well as some other Disney characters in Asian garb.

Getting ready fro Mardi Gras

There is a new video inside the waiting area for The Enchanted Tiki Room. I actually haven’t watched the video in years. But I remember it being all 70’s. It’s still a video that’s about Dole but from what I hear it’s kinda bad.

Tom Cruise Visits DL

DCA
Part of the Soarin over California sign is missing.

In Carlsland a new sign popped up to the right of the courthouse that says, “FastPass Distribution” so it’s safe to say the RRR will have fastpass!

They also started playing around with the neon lighting over at Carsland as well as lighting the Cadillac Range. It has sort of a purpleish look to them.

I must admit seeing the photos I’m a little concerned. My first knee-jerk reaction is that the main drag looks very busy. There is this row of streetlights and it looks… busy. Maybe too much. Hard to tell.

Something I didn’t notice last week was that Red Wood Creek Challenge Trail is closed. Looks like the are referbing in and it is set to reopen in March.

Wednesday Photo Challenge 2-1-12

February 1, 2012 By Daniel Hale

It’s been awhile but the photo challenge has returned to stump you again. If you’re new to this, here’s the deal: On certain Wednesdays I will post a photo and issue a challenge for our readers to answer a question about it.

I decided to come back swinging. Hard. I don’t expect a great deal of guesses, simply because when no one knows, no one says nothin’! And I’m betting none of you will get this one:

This pretty golden crown belongs to the signage on what Disneyland attraction?

If you know the answer to this one, or think you know the answer, drop me a line.

You can do this by:

Leaving a comment here (certainly the simplest way)

Send me a direct message on Twitter (@disgeekpaul)

or drop me an e-mail: paul@disgeek.com.

I’ll keep your answers hidden so that more people can guess, therefore YOU will be able to see your answer, but no one else will. I need to keep it going as long as I can and give everyone a fair shot at it.

Tomorrow morning I’ll post the names of players who guessed correctly and reveal a new photo with the correct answer.

Have a great magical, and happy Humpday!

New Photo: Radiator Springs Racers

January 28, 2012 By Daniel Hale

The Disney Parks Blog continues to provide us with some really fantastic new imagery for upcoming attractions at the Disneyland Resort.  This one is no exception.  Radiator Springs Racers!  Who’s ready to ride this?

From the DPB!

Disney’s Yellow Shoes Creative Group recently created a photo-realistic composite of Radiator Springs Racers that you may see in the coming weeks in advertisements or other promotional material as we race toward making Cars Land a reality, but we wanted you to be the first to see it. The composite is a combination of images designed to give you a glimpse of what the attraction will look like when it opens this summer.

All I can say is “Kachow!”

Disney changes dress code to allow employees to grow beards

First, they could grow a mustache, just like Walt Disney. Now, they can grow a little more facial hair but not quite enough to be like most of the Seven Dwarfs.

Disneyland announced that it’s loosened up its legendary dress code — known as the Disney Look — to allow employees to grow more facial hair. But the rules still forbid visible tattoos, body piercings (other than the ears for women), “extreme” hairstyles or colors. (Shaved heads are OK for men, but a no-go for women.)

Beginning Feb. 3, employees can show up to work with a beard or a goatee without worry, as long as it is shorter than a quarter of an inch. Soul patches are still not allowed.

“Disney Look guidelines are periodically reviewed in relation to industry standards, as well as the unique environment of our theme parks and resorts,” Betsy Sanchez, a Disneyland Resorts spokeswoman, said in a statement. “While we are careful to maintain our heritage and the integrity of our brand, a recent review of our guidelines led to a decision that an update was appropriate at this time.”

The company has enforced rules that have earned it a reputation as having one of the strictest dress codes in the corporate world. And the dress code has become part of the Disney corporate lore. Until 2010, women were required to wear pantyhose with skirts and couldn’t wear sleeveless tops. Even now, straps have to be at least 3 inches wide.

A clean-cut image is something customers have come to expect from Disney, said David Koenig, author of “Mouse Tales” and a chronicler of Disney culture. Everyone from the guy in the Mickey Mouse costume to the woman in the ticket booth are all part of a grand production (indeed, Disney employees are called cast members).

“They are casting characters, rather than hiring employees,” Koenig said. “If the person driving the omnibus looks like a punk rocker, it doesn’t coincide with the show they are trying to put on.”

But Disney’s undergoing an evolution to stay with the times. What was clean cut in the 1950s, Koenig said, isn’t quite the same today.

“They want to stay tradition-based, and they also want to be current,” Koenig said. “They don’t want it to become a museum of what entertainment used to be like.”
