Construction Walls Now Up at DCA Entrance

January 5, 2011 By Daniel Hale

As reported earlier the letters at Disney California Adventure are in the process of being removed. Thanks to the magic of Twitter we have some pictures to share. @ryosh808 provided these great images. The artwork on the walls are especially cool. Old school Disney Characters FTW! We got Oswald, Pete, Clara Cluck, Horace Horsecollar. Plus images of Micky and the gang with their look from back in the day.

Of course this all makes sense as the Buena Vista Street is to represent LA as Walt saw it back in the 1920’s.

Here is a new render of the final entrance and Buena Vista Street.

Sol Cal Deal Prices Go Up

January 2, 2011 By Daniel Hale

From OC Register:
Disney hiked the price of its annual two-day ticket deal for Southern California residents — a promotion that begins Sunday (today).
Southern California residents can pay $99 for two days at Disneyland Resort parks — Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. (The usual cost for a single-day, one-park pass is $76).

In recent years, Disney sold two-for-one park tickets to Southern California residents at the start of the year, roughly January to May, when attendance is down. Last year’s deal cost $72. Read about last year’s 2-for-1 Disney deal.

The new Southern California tickets do give more flexibility than the previous ones.

The old two-for-one deal required guests to go to one park on one day and the second park on another day. Both trips had to occur within 30 days of each other.
This year’s ticket can be used at either park — two visits at one park or one visit at each park. The two trips can happen any time between now and May 14.
“Our new offer gives local residents flexibility to choose which park, and a longer time period in which to visit,” said Betsy Sanchez, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman.
Buyers can upgrade their tickets to “park hoppers” — meaning they can go to both parks on the same day — for $10 more.

Disney Parks Reach Capacity with Holiday Crowds

December 30, 2010 By Daniel Hale

From the OC Register:

Disneyland traditionally fills up during the holiday season, often prompting the park to temporarily shut its gates.

But this week’s crowds appear to be bigger than usual at both parks. Perhaps that was because some visitors postponed trips originally planned for last week until the heavy rain arrived.

Disney stopped visitors from entering both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure after the parks filled to capacity Tuesday.

It was the second day in a row for restrictions at Disneyland, which was stuffed by 10 a.m — just two hours after the park opened.

Disney California Adventure’s gates were closed shortly before 1 p.m.

Pixar Play Parade Put On Hiatus

December 22, 2010 By Daniel Hale

From the OC Register
Disney California Adventure will put its parade on hiatus for most of next year as crews work on major construction projects in the $1 billion park makeover.
The final Pixar Play Parade is set for Jan. 3. The parade will return in November, said John McClintock, aDisneyland Resort spokeswoman.

In the parade’s place, Disney will run mini, roaming shows, called Pixar Pop-Ups. The pop-up shows will be based on Pixar movies and use characters and items from the parad.

The first show, based on “The Incredibles,” is set to begin Jan. 7. The other shows are based on “Monsters Inc.” and the “Toy Story” movies. They will begin Jan. 21 and Feb. 4, but Disney has yet to announce which one will begin first.
