Trader Sams at the Disneyland Hotel Hosts the Inaugural Mahaloween Luau

September 30, 2014 By Daniel Hale

In our last episode we briefly talked about the Mahaloween Luau event that was posted on the Disney Parks Blog. Our very own Jae Brattain attend the event yesterday, and here is his report:

The inaugural Mahaloween Luau took place at Trader Sam’s on September 29, 2014. This event featured representatives from Walt Disney Imagineering presenting information about the forthcoming Walt Disney World’s version of Trader Sam’s at the Polynesian Resort (which will be called “Grog Grotto”). They also provided details about the special edition Zombie mug being released at the event. In addition, there was some history and facts about a few of the cool props inside Trader Sam’s.

Beyond the presentations, there was live entertainment, food and drinks. Each guest received a coupon for two beverages (beer, wine, or select mixed drinks). The appetizers included miniature versions of lettuce-wrapped chicken, ahi poke cone, Kalua-style pork slider, and Panko-crusted Chinese Long Beans. It was “all you care to eat” and the quality of food was really good.

The event lasted about an hour. Afterwards, guests received a Jungle River Cruise Expedition Bag filled with goodies. It included the special edition Zombie mug that the imagineers spoke about, a canvas print of Trader Sam holding the mug, a button, a panama-style hat, and a coupon for 20% off Tangaroa Terrace restaurant.

Guests also had the opportunity to buy two additional special edition Zombie mugs. The artists was in attendance and signed each one. There was also the artist who designed the canvas print and he provided autographs as well.

Although advertised as being indoors for the presentation, everything took place outdoors. As such, it was really crowded because only half the outdoor seating area was used for the 100 guests in attendance. Nevertheless, speaking with one of the imagineers, this event was sold out and there are already plans to bring it back next year.
